The other side of the Falls — Livingstone, South Luangwa and the walking safari
Why Zambia
Zambia is Zimbabwe’s immediate neighbour across the Zambezi, sharing Victoria Falls with the town of Livingstone on the Zambian side.
Beyond the falls, Zambia has two world-class safari destinations: South Luangwa National Park — widely considered the birthplace of the walking safari and home to extraordinary leopard densities — and Lower Zambezi National Park, where you can canoe past elephants on the river.
Zambia is less crowded than Zimbabwe or Botswana and has a genuine wilderness feel. The country draws serious safari travellers who want fewer vehicles, more remote experiences.
South Luangwa is where the walking safari was invented — Norman Carr pioneered it here in the 1950s. No vehicles, just boots, a rifle and a guide. For travellers who want raw Africa rather than vehicle-based game drives, South Luangwa is the answer.

The Booking Angle
The KAZA UniVisa (US$50) covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia, making the two countries one seamless travel zone for most nationalities. Many travellers visit both sides of the Falls. For Africa NowNow, Zambia is a natural companion to Zimbabwe — a traveller booking Vic Falls can extend to Livingstone, South Luangwa, or Lower Zambezi in a single trip.
